PROduction OVERVIEW

With filming well advanced and post-production set for London in 2026, the intention is for FLYTRAP TOWN to be released globally in 2027, with an impact campaign at the heart of the distribution strategy. Backed by the filmmakers’ proven track record, the film is also positioned for streamer acquisition and a limited theatrical run.

  • BUDGET

The film’s budget allows us to spend around 18 months crafting a beautiful, premium feature documentary with cinematic 4K visuals, while remaining significantly lower than many comparable 90-minute US streamer documentaries. This is possible because a number of our crew are reducing their fees out of goodwill and belief in the project. We are aiming to raise approximately $150,000 through donations, with the remaining budget financed through a combination of grants, pre-sales, equity investment, and UK tax credits.

  • SCHEDULE

We have completed 46 days of filming, with just a small number of additional shoots planned in North Carolina to complete production. Subject to funding, editing will begin in early to mid 2026 and run for approximately six months, with a locked cut ready by late 2026 for submission to major festivals including Sundance, SXSW, Cannes, and Tribeca. Final post-production will take place in London in late 2026, positioning the film for a full global release in 2027.

  • DISTRIBUTION

Our primary aim is to deliver a focused impact campaign with conservation partners and decision makers, using the film to support the protection of wild Venus flytrap habitats in North Carolina. We also hope the film will be acquired by a major streamer such as Netflix, HBO, or National Geographic, building on Robert Ford’s track record with these platforms. The film will premiere at a leading festival such as Sundance, Tribeca or Venice, and/or nature film festival Jackson Wild, and have a limited theatrical release that feeds directly into the impact campaign.
